What you'll do

You'll be working on several "startup" projects that apply Surfly's JS/DOM sandbox and the HTTP/WS proxy in a wide range of use cases such as privacy protection, security access control, developer tools, and more. This job provides lots of opportunities for touching all kinds of technologies across the web platform, as well as bringing your own business ideas as we iterate on the projects.

Apart from developing the projects themselves, you will use the gained experience to contribute to the core middleware platform and make it more flexible and useful.

What you can expect

  • Work in a small team of highly skilled engineers. You will have a possibility to directly impact our end result with minimal bureaucracy.
  • As a Research Engineer, you will be facing unique challenges that require lots of research on the modern web platform. This is an endless source of knowledge, you will never be bored.
  • Sitting/standing desk, multiple screens, good hardware on the company expenses.
  • Nice office located in the center of Amsterdam.
  • Reimbursement of costs for conferences etc.
  • 25 holidays and approx. 7 national holidays per year (Dutch rules apply)
  • Tax benefits for foreign employees and help with relocation to the Netherlands

You are a good candidate, if

  • You have at least 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer or similar.
  • You know your way around Javascript and web platform in general. You can name a few annoying imperfections in HTTP, HTML, CSS, and DOM APIs.
  • You have experience with API design.
  • You are a reliable teammate. You can really own your part in achieving the common goal.

You are a great candidate, if

  • Despite appreciating clean code and perfect designs, you prioritize the delivery and know when to take shortcuts.
  • You are a critical thinker and don't rush to conclusions.
  • You do not hesitate to dive into 3rd-party source code when necessary. You are comfortable reading the code in any programming language, even if it means quickly picking up an unfamiliar technology.
  • You like thinking out of the box, and often use existing tools in unconventional ways.
